helping young people gain real jobs, dignity and self-respect...

About 40 per cent of all unemployed people in Australia are aged under 25 years. That’s 212,000 young people out of work. This figure could expand given that almost 26,000 students are still leaving school early each year, and remain out of the workforce 12 months later. The situation is worse for Indigenous Australians.

The Beacon Foundation addresses the issue of youth employment by working with young people before they leave school to help them develop the skills and confidence needed to achieve personal success for themselves and their community. Beacon projects demonstrate solutions to unemployment and encourage self help.

Beacon started its No Dole program in response to the overwhelming numbers of young people going out the school gate without any real purpose or idea about their future pathway. The program was so successful it has now been replicated at more than 90 schools around Australia.

For two decades now Beacon has been working to resolve the issue of youth unemployment. Throughout the years Beacon has managed to maintain its relevance and impact, informing and preparing young people for the world of work.

Beacon is now celebrating its 20th Anniversary at a National Charter Signing Week and Gala Dinner.

Over 7000 students from 55 schools across the country participated in Beacon’s 20th Anniversary Charter Week from 16 – 20 June. Beacon also hosted a Gala Dinner on the 23 July to thank its supporters for their involvement and to explore the past, present and future of the organisation.

Please join SVA in wishing the Beacon Foundation a very happy 20th birthday.
